Well in anticipation of the new X-Men Legends II coming out this week I finally broke down and purchased the original. I was watching Filter on G4 Videogame TV on Saturday and they broke down the 10 best cooperative video games of all time. Among them was the original Gauntlet, Contra, and yes X-Men Legends. I have been looking for a game that could rival the experience of games like NeverWinter Nights, or Diablo on the XBOX but it seems that all the best RPG games are single player. Well, not being much for the solo experience, I have been very dissappointed. Then I read about X-Men Legends and it sound like the game I had been looking for. The guys and I have played games like Hunter and had a good time but we are looking for something more challenging and with a deeper plot. I popped X-Men in for a few minutes yesterday and am intregued. For one, the environment is much richer than Hunter, and the abilities that my character (Wolverine) had were also more diverse. I like the control system and the ability to change the camera angles also was nice. I didn't play very long because I don't want to spoil the experience of playing on the 57" HD widescreen with the guys. We are planning on getting together on Friday. If this game is as good as I hope it could be then I will be reporting more and will also most likely get the new version (which includes Live! support for 4 players).

Well X-Men is pretty cool but I was a bit disappointed by the fact that in order to have everyone play I had to slog through all of the first level by myself, then part of the second with just one friend. Once we got back to the Xmen Mansion we were able to add all four players and then the game started picking up. The action comes at a good pace an though some maps so far are a bit puzzling we were able to make it through with just a reasonable amount of difficulty. The thing I started getting annoyed with is that whenever a character leveled up the player would open the level screen and the rest of us would sit around waiting for that player to choose where to assign attribute points. I'm not sure how this could be accomplished is a less combersome way but after a few level ups it really started to annoy me. All in all the game was fun once we got moving. I am hoping to play some more with the guys and I'll update our progress as we go. If anyone has any impressions of X-Men Legends II please share them.
