I'm getting ready to move into my new home and I spent some time on the phone with both of the local broadband providers, Frontier (DSL) and Time Warner (Cable) trying to figure out what was the best "bang for my buck".
After talking with Frontier, they will only guarantee the end user 1MB of bandwidth, but say you can expect 1MB to 3MB of service.
Time Warner says I'm already getting 4MB to 5MB with my existing cable modem connection, and I have no complaints, as all of my LIVE! time has been great with very little lag or hesitation.
I ended up selecting the cable solution (Time Warner) because it was only a few dollars more a month and I didn't have to change e-mail addresses and all the other stuff.
I was curious to find out however if anyone has any reports on XBOX Live! performance with DSL?

You might want to consider the all in one solution (phone, cable, internet). The reason I suggest this is that the new VoIP cable modem Time Warner installed for me (I used to have the old grey Motorola) is awesome! I am getting double the speed on my downloads with the new modem. With the old one I was getting 250-350 Mbps and with the new one I am getting 600+ Mbps! Also Time Warner found that for voice access they needed to "clean up" my cable from the pole to the house so you might find the same is true. Your existing cable line to the new house might be acceptable for Internet and TV but for not for phone so they would have to clean up the lines which would only stand to improve your internet bandwidth. So VoIP in my book means better Live! If you do go this route make sure you tell Time Warner that I referred you because they pay a $20.00 referral credit for new sign ups.
