It’s finally here, the 2005 XBTR LAN (Local Area Network) Gaming Event!!!
Here are the details:
Location:
MK Computer Solutions Corporate Offices 700 West Metro Park, 2nd Fl Rochester, NY 14623 (This is across from the MCC Campus on East Henrietta Road)
Saturday October 8, 2005
Check in/equipment setup begins @ 1:30PM
Gaming from 2:00PM to 10:00PM
This will be a LAN Gaming Event only! There will be no XBOX LIVE! connections for this event.
There will be three major games played during the evening:
Halo 2 Ghost Recon II Madden ‘06
We will be operating on a switched LAN, so if you and your colleagues want to set up a tournament with another XBOX title, you’ll be completely configured to do so. I would encourage those members interested in playing titles other than the three mentioned above to generate a post on the XBTR Forum with the games they plan on bringing so that others may bring the same titles as well.
What you’ll need to bring:
Your XBOX, a surge protector or power strip with surge protection, all appropriate XBOX titles, and a television set, along with all appropriate wiring to wire your television and XBOX together. If you have a LIVE! account at home, please make sure you run your updates prior to arrival at the event, as again, a LIVE! connection will not be available at the event. We will provide your Category 5 connection to the switch via a pre-made network cable.
Only XBTR Members or guests sponsored by an XBTR Member are permitted to register and attend.
Please read the attached .pdf document and complete and return the 2005 XBTR LAN Gaming Registration form by September 30, 2005, with your $15.00 admission fee, payable to MK Computer Solutions.
Snacks early on, with dinner to be served later in the evening. Come and have a blast with other XBTR members on a cool Fall evening…..
Hope to see you all there….

I'm definitely there. I can't wait to get together with everyone for some good old fashioned LAN party fun. In addition to the games Iceman mentioned I would also like to suggest that we consider TOCA Race Driver 2, and Dead or Alive Ultimates. If anyone has either of these games and would like to play let me know.
Also if for some reason you cannot bring your own television please let me know. I am working to aquire a few spare televisions for the event. Not sure yet if these units will support A/V connections or RF but I will let you know as soon as I do.
Iceman, Thundar and I also discussed the possibility of a raffle for cash or prizes. Without knowing the number of people who are coming we didn't want to commit to the raffle. If however there are enough people and everyone is interested in it we will definitely do it.
We may also need to find a source for software if any players are without the key games we plan to play. If anyone works at or knows someone who owns a game store it would be great if we could get some participation. We would love to do a cooperative advertising for discounts type deal. If you have a line on something please send a private message to either Iceman or myself and we will work something out.
Finally, don't forget your friends who don't have XBOXes. Just because they don't have boxes doesn't mean that we should exclude them. If they are interested in playing and you don't mind split-screening it then by all means make sure to forward the registration form over to them. If you don't have extra space on your box for them to play, post the message on this board and I'm sure someone else will give them the opportunity. If you need a copy of the registration form please let myself or Iceman know.
That's all for now. I really hope we make it to 16 players very soon so we don't have to worry about cancelling the event.

I have to make sure I'm not busy, but otherwise count me in.
Will you guys accept the $15 thru Paypal?

Unfortunately, we don't currently have a PayPal account setup for XBOX team Rochester.
If this event is successful, as we all hope it will be, we may consider putting a PayPal sight together in the future. for future LAN events
For the time being though, if you wouldn't mind dropping a check in the mail, it would make things a little easier administratively on our end.
Thanks,
Ice ;D

It might be cool if we were to also have a [glow=red,2,300]swap meet [/glow]at the LAN event. I'm thinking that besides games we are planning to play, we bring the software we are interested in trading. What do you all think?
Also, since we are most likely going to have a big-screen TV for showing XBOX and XBOX 360 game previews and stuff I was thinking that it might be cool if anyone has any recorded videos of game play on either VHS or DVD format let me know (i.e in game stunts, awesome plays or anything ultra-cool). We'd love to see some of your greatest hits.
In addition I'm hoping to have some infrastucture setup so we can do some recording during the event so we can put together a greatest hits of the XBTR LAN Event 2005.

My Xbox is modded, and with XBMC it will play back any format under the sun. So if anyone has videos they downloaded that they wish to show, either give me the link or just burn it to a CD/DVD and I'll be able to play it.
Don't worry about how you burn it, I have a Samsung drive so my Xbox isn't picky about discs.

Ken, It's great that you've offered up you box to show the videos that are on disc media. I don't suppose you have more than one box so we can keep the videos running while we play? No big deal if you don't, I still plan on having a VCR running with some videos as well that way if anyone needs to take a break from the game play there will still be something to check out.

Sadly no, I only got one box. But if anyone has a spare box, I can use that and leave my box as the dedicated media box.
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention that I have a ton of emulators so we can even do a little retro gaming if people are down. A little Mario Kart 64 or Goldeneye anyone?

Awww yea, been waiting for this one for a while...
I'll be driving my SUV to the party, so if anyone has trasport issues I'll be able to help out there.
I'm down with the swap meet too (gotta get rid of that crappy wolfenstien title :-) )
have we talked to local rental shops to see if they can provide the main titles as sponsorship for the day?

As of today, we still need about 6 or 7 more paid and registered players to make this event happen.
If you know anyone else who has an XBOX and wants to play, or if you plan to bring a friend, please fill out the registration form and get your payment in asap.
Hope to see everyone there, should be a great time.
